Salon asks for nothing

The short version

Salon has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It contains no third-party advertising or analytics software of any kind. Nothing you do in the app is recorded against your name, because the app never learns it.

Salon does download its pictures from a server we run, and like any server it can see the address your request came from. That is described in full below rather than glossed over.

What is stored, and where

Salon saves the following on your Apple TV, so the app works the way you left it:

• Your display preferences: clock style, position and 12/24-hour setting; whether a mat is shown, and its colour and width; the automatic-change interval and whether it shuffles; whether the screen is kept awake.
• The artworks you save to Favourites, and which artwork is currently on screen.
• A cache of artwork images and the catalogue, so the frame keeps working when your connection does not.

All of it stays on the device. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else, and all of it is removed when you delete the app.

Network connections

Salon downloads its catalogue and its pictures from salon-art.salontvos.workers.dev, a server we operate using Cloudflare. As with any request to any website, that server receives your device's IP address and the name of the file requested, which means it can see which pictures your Apple TV asked for.

What we do with that:

• Your IP address is used at the moment of the request to limit how fast any one device can download, which is how the collection is protected from being copied wholesale. It is not stored by us afterwards.
• Cloudflare keeps ordinary short-term server logs on our behalf, as every web host does. We do not export them, build profiles from them, or combine them with anything else.
• There is no account, no device identifier and no cookie, so nothing recorded can be tied back to you as a person or followed between sessions.

If our server cannot be reached, Salon falls back to requesting artwork directly from the museums that published it. In that case those museums receive the request instead, and their own privacy policies apply:

• National Gallery of Art: api.nga.gov
• The Metropolitan Museum of Art: collectionapi.metmuseum.org, images.metmuseum.org
• Cleveland Museum of Art: openaccess-api.clevelandart.org, openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org

No other server is contacted, in either case. Salon sends no identifier, no account and nothing about you.

This website

getsalon.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party services. Its fonts and images are served from the site itself. Cloudflare, which hosts it, keeps ordinary short-term server logs.

Children

Salon collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and the revised policy is published here before the version of the app it applies to is released.
